Karyn Pugliese is an award-winning journalist and media leader who has managed news teams at APTN, CBC, and Canada’s National Observer. She has earned the respect of colleagues while navigating high-stakes journalism in Canada. Whether overseeing a team, teaching future journalists, or handling crises in a newsroom, she approaches each situation with clarity and a focus on results. As a speaker across North America, Karyn has shared insights at events such as IRE, NAJA, the UN, CJF J-Talks, and various journalism schools. Her work has shaped public discourse and contributed to changes in legislation while supporting the development of new journalists.

Currently, Karyn has returned to a creative editorial role, focusing on writing, podcasting, and facilitating important conversations. She recently launched a Substack titled “How I Managed,” where she reflects on newsroom life, shares leadership lessons, and discusses the realities of modern media. She also teaches at Carleton University.

A citizen of the Pikwàkanagàn First Nation, Karyn is of mixed Algonquin and Italian heritage. In her free time, you’ll find her canoeing, photographing nature and eating fry bread.
